Ed Brown’s Artist Bio

As a kid growing up in Michigan, I dreamed of palm trees and white sandy beaches. Florida was a picture-postcard image of orange trees, waterside cottages, and alligators.

When my family moved to Florida during my last year of high school, those former images in my mind became part of my everyday surroundings. Even now, some 30 years later, I’m still captivated by old Florida – cottages that rest near the gulf, or fishing shacks standing proud in the back bays. Historic Florida, to me, is seaside wooden structures, screened porches, fish camps and docks filled with sailboats framed by coconut palms.

I travel all over Florida snapping pictures of subjects I would love to paint. I have painted hundreds of Florida landscapes. I have thousands still to go!

In 2001 as a budding artist, I was fortunate to have an art gallery on the beautiful and picturesque North Captiva Island. You will still find me on the docks there from time-to-time in-season! I also participate weekly at the Tower Gallery – an award winning gallery and “all local” artist co-op. It is truly one of the most colorful, charming galleries of original art you will ever find, located in an old restored beach cottage on Sanibel Island.

During the past five years I have captured many of Southwest Florida’s unique and charming landmarks and you can find them at the below fine shops & galleries. These galleries and stores are located in some of the most unique and tropical areas in Florida! You will love visiting them all!
